We’ve compiled a list of the most common questions we get asked about what you can put in your skip and the skip hire service as a whole.
How much is it to hire a skip in Norwich?
Our skips start from £130, each one varying in price and the distance they have to journey to get to you also plays a part in the final price.
However, if you’re looking to hire one of our specialist skips such as a roll-on, or one exclusively for asbestos or plasterboard waste give our team a call on 01603 721533 for a quote.
What can be put in a skip?
Various materials and items can be thrown into our general skips including bricks, rubble, tiles, carpets and carpet underlay, roofing felt, mattresses, wood, furniture, metals, green waste, soil, food waste (except liquids) and much more. You can even mix several waste types together.
There are also items that cannot be put into our general skips. Items which cannot go in are fridges and freezers, fluorescent tubes or mercury waste, asbestos, TV and computer monitors, gas canisters, plasterboard, liquids (dried out solid paint is okay), tyres, and items of dangerous reactions.
If there are any items you’re unsure about, call our team on 01603 721533 to find out, or send us an email.
Why can’t you put plasterboard in a skip?
If not disposed of in a careful and responsible manner, plasterboard can release toxic sulphide gas. Therefore, if plasterboard is mixed in with general waste, cross contamination can take place meaning our usual waste management and disposal processes cannot be carried out for the general waste in your skip.
We can accept plasterboard within general waste skips as long as it is segregated from other waste types using our plasterboard disposal bags.
Choose between our small plasterboard bags measuring at 26in x 45in and 98L in volume, these cost £15+VAT each. Or our larger tonne bags which measure at 35in x 35in and 729l in volume for £60+VAT each. You can select the quantity you require at the point of booking your skip for them to be delivered with your skip. When filled, these plasterboard disposal bags need to be placed in the skips for collection as our drivers won’t be able to lift them by themselves.
How long can you hire a skip for?
We automatically assign a hire duration of one week for our 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12-yard skips. Or, if delivered on a Friday, the hire period falls over two weekends. If you don’t want yours for this long, you can tell us at the point of booking either over the phone or in the comments of your online order, or if you can inform us at a later date that you have finished early.
Longer periods of hire can sometimes be agreed, if you require this give us a call to discuss your options.
What does “collection from” mean?
You may have noticed from our online order system or your invoice that we give “collection from” dates. This date is the date that your skip will automatically appear on our collection lists. It means that the skip may be collected on this date, but sometimes it will roll over to subsequent days if we haven’t been in your area for a collection that day.
If you urgently require your skip to be removed, please let us know as soon as you can, so that we can plan a definite removal on or by a specific date.
I already have a skip and need another one, can I use the online order feature?
Of course. Just select the delivery date you would like for your new skip, and let us know in the comments if you have a skip already at the address that you require removing at the same time.
Do I need a permit for a skip?
If you don’t have a private driveway for your skip to be dropped off then we almost always require a permit to drop the skip off on the road outside your house. Exceptions include some communal parking areas, private roads or unadopted roads. We check whether a permit is required using the Norfolk County Council Highways map: https://maps.norfolk.gov.uk/highways/ . We will get in touch with the Norfolk County Council to arrange all permits so you don’t need to worry.
How big is a standard skip?
Our most popular, and what most would deem as a standard skip, is the 8-yard skip. Ideal for renovations, house clearances, building projects, and soil and rubble disposal.
Unsure of which skip to choose?
We supply a wide range of skips for hire, allowing you to choose the ideal size for your particular needs. We provide skips to a wide variety of customers across the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors and are perfectly placed to advise you on the best skip for your requirements.
