We’ve always known that our director, Daniel Parker, is making waves in the waste and recycling industry, and now he’s got the award to prove it.
The ESS expo
On September 11th to the 12th, the Environmental Services and Solutions Expo was held in Birmingham. This event was split into five more specific expos: the resource and waste management expo, the contamination and land remediations expo, the air pollution control expo, the water resource management expo, and the energy, fuels and decarbonisation expo. For PSH, our focus was on the resource and waste management expo (RWM).
Covering everything within the environmental services sector, this incredible event featured 17 conference theatres and stages which boasted more than 350 speakers over the two-day expo. Amongst the bustling activities was an award for trailblazers of the industry: the 35 Under 35 Award.
The award
The 35 Under 35 Award celebrates and recognises commitment to professional excellence, driving industry innovation, and contributing to their company or community. An impressive 162 people were nominated for this award, which is double the number nominated for the 2023 award. This gave the judges a much trickier time narrowing it down to the 35 winners they believe display the qualities they were looking for in a winner.
On September 12th, the second day of the Resource & Waste Management Expo in Birmingham, the award nominees gathered in the Green Skills and Future Talent Hub.
The award event was kicked off with a panel discussion led by Libby Stonell, editor of letsrecycle.com, made up of last year’s three award winners. The panel was inspiring and insightful, discussing the various obstacles faced by young people within the waste sector today, along with the importance of getting the next generation involved with green skills, a healthy work-life balance, and what the future holds for this industry.
After the panel, Neil Grundon, chairman of Grundon, gave a speech that inspired the audience. Grundon, the UK’s leading, family-owner supplier of integrated waste management and environmental services, sponsored the award.
After the speech, the award ceremony began. Of the 162 nominees, only 35 could win the 35 Under 35 Award, and we are so proud that PSH director Daniel secured one of these coveted spots.
Here’s what Daniel has to say about his win:
“It was great to see all the winners at the ESS Expo awards, the diverse nature of companies within the waste sector is truly remarkable. For me it is a great honour to win a 35 Under 35 award and it will hopefully provide a great platform for me to build upon and push to achieve even more. Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to LetsRecycle and award sponsor Grundon.”
