We have big news. The team here at PSH are very excited to announce that we are up for three awards at this year’s MRW National Recycling Awards, hosted in London on November 26th. We can’t wait to attend the awards and meet other like-minded industry professionals, each helping to shape the future of recycling and waste management in their own way.
The award categories
Here are the award categories we have been nominated for at PSH Environmental:
Innovation in Recycling Equipment and Vehicles
This award recognises the crucial role that vehicles and equipment play in enhancing the operations, processes and environmental impact of waste, resource and recycling organisations. The award aims to spotlight fresh concepts and ideas that challenge conventional practices and push the industry forward.
The winner of this category will showcase innovative equipment that significantly improves the industry. Here’s what the judges are looking for:
- Increased efficiency
- Improved materials quality
- Reduced waste
- Improved recycling
- Lower carbon impact
- Better health and safety performance
Why is PSH nominated?
PSH Environmental has been nominated in this category for our commitment to cutting-edge recycling equipment that supports our efficiency and sustainability. We have invested in, and operate, a pioneering solar-powered electric shredder in collaboration with UNTHA UK, which has helped us reduce our overall carbon emissions and secure our carbon-neutral status.
This incredible equipment contributes directly to a positive environmental impact as well as improved recycling rates, setting a new standard in the industry. The wood waste we collect from the shredder is sent to a local biomass plant, which uses it as fuel for energy.
Additionally, our 798 solar panels across our facility make us entirely self-sufficient in power. In fact, we’re even able to add power back into the grid. We saved over 123 tonnes of carbon emissions in a single year thanks to this initiative.
Recycling Facility of the Year
This award celebrates a waste and/or recycling facility that shows exceptional performance through innovation, giving it the title of recycling facility of the year. The winning facility will have demonstrated a commitment to excellence, setting a benchmark that inspires others to reach new heights.
Why is PSH nominated?
Our facility has been nominated for this incredible award because of our steadfast commitment to sustainable waste management and innovation. Achieving 100% diversion of waste from landfill, we ensure that everything that passes through our site is either recycled or converted to energy.
The installation of almost 800 solar panels powers our entire facility, including the world’s first solar-powered UNTHA XR3000 shredder, which significantly reduces our carbon footprint and even supplies excess energy back to the grid. In fact, this year we achieved carbon-neutral status, and we’re on our way to becoming a carbon-positive organisation.
Beyond our daily operations, PSH actively supports community conservation through our ‘Clean Up To Green Up’ campaign by donating to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust with each skip hired. This commitment to renewable energy, zero-waste commitment and community impact showcases the high standards of PSH Environmental. We believe that our facility stands as a model of inspiration in the waste management sector through our hard work, passion and dedication.
Energy Innovation (nominated with UNTHA UK)
This award recognises organisations across the UK that are pushing the boundaries of waste management and recycling by turning waste into energy and other valuable resources. It highlights businesses involved in areas such as energy-from-waste, waste-to-fuel technology, chemical recycling, anaerobic digestion, landfill gas capture, and carbon storage.
The award celebrates companies that have expanded into supplying low-carbon energy; for example, converting old landfill sites into solar farms. The winner will also demonstrate a fresh approach to reimagining how to use waste and waste infrastructure as a resource.
The award winner will be chosen for their contribution to the UK’s energy mix, and the technological innovation and creativity they showcase in transforming waste into fuel and energy.
This is what the judges will be looking for when selecting a winner:
- Evidence that the technology works at scale and is profitable
- A role model for other businesses to follow
- Contribution to the UK’s net zero ambitions
Why is PSH nominated?
PSH Environmental’s partnership with UNTHA UK is transforming how waste is used to create energy. We invested in the creation of and now operate the world’s first solar-powered UNTHA XR3000 shredder, which shreds our wood waste down into processed grade c wood. This wood is then sent to a local biomass plant, where it is used as fuel to create renewable energy.
This approach reduces landfill waste and supports the UK’s net-zero goals, along with helping us maintain our carbon-neutral status. The success of this solar-powered technology shows it’s possible to be both eco-friendly and profitable. We believe that this makes us a great example for other businesses wanting to adopt innovative, low-carbon energy solutions, and why the PSH and UNTHA UK teams have been nominated.
The National Recycling Awards take place on 26th November
It’s safe to say the team here are incredibly proud of these nominations, as they reflect the dedication, hard work, innovation and sustainability efforts that we at PSH Environmental put into our work. Being recognised in these categories is an exciting affirmation of our commitment to positive change within the waste industry.
We’re looking forward to attending the National Recycling Awards in November, celebrating the achievements of all nominees and connecting with others in the industry. Regardless of the outcome, we are honoured to be acknowledged alongside other forward-thinking organisations. We can’t wait to continue pushing boundaries, improving our processes and setting new standards in sustainability in the world of waste and recycling.
Here’s to a greener future and the exciting possibilities ahead.
